Technology shifting the face of HIV epidemic

First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa asserts that technology is rapidly altering the face of the HIV outbreak following the invention of a brand new generation of diagnostic machinery that can test for HIV in babies with results coming immediately after testing is done.

The First Lady asserts the latest technology being used in HIV response does not only reduce stress in mothers but it is also very instrumental in lessening the mother-to-child transmission of HIV.

This week, Zimbabwe obtained 10 Samba machines from a UK-based diagnostic manufacturer, Diagnostic for Real World, which will be utilised to diagnose HIV within an hour in babies. In addition, the machines will be used to observe HIV patterns in adults.

“I’m thrilled by this technological innovation that will help mothers receive HIV results the very same day their babies are tested and the taking of health care services to marginalised communities. This will definitely cut costs for mothers who used to travel long distances to get these services,” she said.
